JENNIFER’S JOURNEY
Jennifer’s journey is a powerful story of overcoming addiction and finding her purpose in helping others struggling with similar challenges.
“Back in my addiction, my husband and I were driving down Columbus Avenue, we passed Talbert House and I said I think I’m supposed to work there one day”, said Jennifer.
After years of battling addiction, Jennifer made the decision to seek help and attend an outpatient addiction treatment service within Talbert House. However, realizing that it wasn’t enough, she took a step further and committed to an impatient program that she later completed. Jennifer was working at a Speedway gas station, attending school while finishing this program.
Upon completing her program, Jennifer’s therapist recommended a career as a peer recovery coach. She always knew her purpose in life was to help others in addiction. She obtained her Certified Peer Recovery Supporter license and later saw a job opening for Peer Specialist at Talbert House. She applied and a month later was offered the position. Jennifer attended courses through Talbert House’s Institute for Training and Development (ITD) to obtain her CDCA licensure. She is currently a Clinician on Talbert House’s outpatient team in Warren County.
Jennifer finds fulfillment in her work because she can empathize with her client’s situations. Her experience with addiction provides her clients evidence that recovery is possible. “It feels good to put myself in their shoes again to help them,” said Jennifer. “Many clients appreciate having someone who has been through the same walk of life”.
Her dedication to helping others serves as an inspiration to those facing similar struggles and shows that with determination, support, and the right resources, it is possible to overcome addiction and build a meaningful and purposeful life.
